Serving on a NEAR committee furthers your professional development by providing leadership experience, expanding your professional network, and strengthening your ties within the local industry. What's more, committee members are directly involved in identifying new opportunities, guiding projects, and offering expertise, so you will have a direct hand in helping us better serve you and our members, achieve goals, and advance our mission. NEAR members are encouraged to complete the Committee Preference Form below for consideration.
Community Service (REALTORS® & Affiliates)
Plans and implements Community Service projects such as drives for food pantries and holiday toys for local students, as well as projects with local schools, donations to local charitable groups, etc.
Education (REALTORS® & Affiliates)
Fosters knowledge, integrity, and professionalism among NEAR REALTORS® by identifying timely and useful topics and optimum formats for NEAR education courses. Plans the education portion of NEAR's member meetings as well as annual conference and expo.
Finance (REALTORS® only)
Oversees fiscal matters at NEAR, including recommending fiscal policy, monitoring fiscal condition, and overseeing development of the Annual Budget for recommendation to the Board of Directors.
Grievance (REALTORS® only)
Reviews written ethics complaints and arbitration requests to determine whether or not a hearing is warranted. Prerequisite: full-day training in Professional Standards every 2 years; Board of Directors selects members from qualified applicants.
Professional Standards (REALTORS® only)
This Committee does not hold meetings. Members are, from time to time, asked to serve on Hearing Panels to hear matters of alleged unethical conduct by Members or arbitration requests. Prerequisite: full-day training in Professional Standards every 2 years; Board of Directors selects members from qualified applicants.
REALTOR® Party (REALTORS® & Affiliates)
Plans political involvement events including the legislative meet and greet; the annual summer RPAC/PAF fundraising party and works to achieve maximum member participation at MAR’s REALTOR® Day on Beacon Hill. The committee supports homeownership and protects property rights by highlighting important Government Affairs information for members and encourages member donations through fundraisers for RPAC (the REALTORS® Political Action Committee) and PAF (the NAR Political Advocacy Fund).
Special Events (REALTORS® & Affiliates)
Assists in the planning and execution of the Annual Awards Gala, PAF Fundraiser and the Installation/Holiday Party.
Young Professionals (REALTORS® & Affiliates)
Works to build participation in NEAR activities by REALTORS® and Affiliates who are new to the real estate industry or to their roles in it. Supports other NEAR Committee efforts including community service projects and events/programs. Develops/hosts networking and education events for new, young, and “young at heart” members.
Note: Committees do not set policy or make policy decisions, but instead make recommendations to the Board of Directors.
